This paper had been published in "The First International Conference of Communication Technologies and Social Change" Ministry of Higher Education, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 15-17 March, 2009. the paper was published in English language.

This research provides critical overview for the definition of new communication technologies and cultural identity in the new era, focusing on the positive as well as negative effects of new communication technologies in people, society and cultural identity. Emphasis is placed on the role of communication technologies in preserving cultural identity and the role of Arabic media in this regard in hand, and how communication technologies and cultural identity can form a fruitful interaction using the collaborative communication technologies in other hand, giving that their effects on society and cultural identity are not determined by the technologies themselves but by the uses of technologies in society. The article ends with prospected future challenges in this area.
